John V. Croul '49
John “Jack” V. Croul is a CMC alumnus from the class of 1949. Jack also is an honorary trustee of CMC. Jack is the retired co-chairman of the Behr Process Corporation, a manufacturer of paints, stains, and varnishes that are primarily sold through Home Depot. The company was founded in 1947 and merged into Michigan-based Masco Corporation in 1999. Jack was the first employee of the company, founded by his late first wife’s family, and he remained with Behr until retiring as president 51 years later. Jack is married to Kingsley Croul. Jack established the Janet Croul Memorial Scholarship to honor the memory of his late spouse and contributed to the establishment of the Russell S. Penniman, III Memorial Scholarship for his esteemed classmate. Jack also has supported the College by endowing three professorships: the John V. Croul Professorship of European History, the Kingsley Croul Professorship of American History, and the Otho M. Behr Professorship of the History of Ideas.
